Selfless deed!!!

Selfless deed sounds familiar...well for me is was...a much talked about subject specially when friends get together.

The talk on Karma too comes in...remember the old saying.."if you do good to others good things will happen to you"
the effects of all deeds are viewed as actively shaping past, present, and future experiences. The results or 'fruits' of actions are called karma-phala.

Its been accepted by many that there is no Selfless deed..
When me and my colleague were discussing about the same...he raised a point that whether a woman who is pregnant can be an example for a person doing a selfless deed.
We about were not sure if it would or not....
What do you feel???

preganancy may not really be a self-less deed...it could well be an accident...or a family norm or her selfish desire to have a child :-))'

but, pregnancy demands selflessness from the mother after delivery! :)

but yes there are complex connotations to pregnancy in that context...its a personal matter after all!

its been long time, Rak :)
hope you are fine

okay..vacationing :)

and with pregnant mothers -- you sound an authority there!!

i have seen pregnant women only in those situations...and none of those (except in certain cases of family norms) as self-less deeds..

i don't see the self-less act during pregnancy...to whom is she sacrificing??
for a child who isn't yet born and cannot voice opinion whether it likes to be born or not??

I am sorry Rakesh, But I don't really understand! :)

A selfless deed is one that is performed with no expectations in return, often for the benefit of another person than the doer!

A pregnant woman is doing what is expected of her - to safeguard the existence of her unborn child! It is an expected duty and cannot be called selfless although there is a lot of hardship in the process! I don't mean to negate the standing of a pregnant woman, but then that isn't selfless!

A selfless act could be buying food for a hungry person, or perhaps providing comfort to a needy one, without expecting anything in return!

Reminded me of Sudhama and Lord Krishna!

If opinions count... here is mine.

A pregnant woman... its only she who knows what she's going through. A period of 9 months with a new life in her womb, if called a selfish deed, can possibly show how granted can people take things for.

But it still depends on that woman. There are ladies who give birth to children, sell them, get money in exchange of that new born and lead a life.

Analyze the lady, the atmosphere around here.. and then probably one can conclude. :)

Rakesh, I have a response to Shwetz,

You have made a valid point Shwetz ---as is always claimed by Indian women -- and concluded it all the more logically correctly

But I fail to get ...for whom would have the lady made the choice of getting of getting pregnant??

i am a childless woman, and it WAS my selfish desire to have a child once...not now, because the chance are NIL.

anyway, this is not disregarding there is always space for personal opinions...There should be! :)

I don't know.. Having a child is not exactly sumthing which is selfless from the definition that u don't expect anything in return..

Buying food for a hungry person that you absolutely don't know from the street like rakesh says.. maybe.. that can be called a selfless deed...

I wouldnt say its selfless... i mean, yes, mother's love is selfless and mothers do everything for their kids.. but pregnancy itself is something mothers went intentionally for because they wanted that child for themselves, they wanted someone to give their love and show their care.
It is not like they expect anything in return, right? But then they dont think about the baby only when they get pregnant. Its their gift to themselves :)

Today I was travelling in the sweet local train of mumbai which was full and as usual people were standing and looking for which idiot is gonna lift up his ass and leave..........but this idiot had a window seat and when I saw that an old woman was made to stand, I just looked around if sum1 else is gonna do her a favour but no one stood up, so thatsy I left my seat for her and I came over till the door without anyone around knowing that I left the seat for her. They were of the idea that my station had arrived.
Well if there was a hot babe around, i wud have definitely stood right there and not go till the door just to "maar shining" in front of her :P (typical me........lolzz)
But seriously guys, what do u have to say about the said deed above???

Yes dude! Self-less deed is something where you dnt expect something materialistic to happen to you! So mother delivering a kid, staying up late when the kid cried, waiting for the kid to sleep before she sleeps, all are self-less deeds! the only thing she receives is satisfaction and happiness which till today cant be counted as materialistic!
Adios
